One more month till the end and exciting times ahead!

After this blog post, there is only one more until my placement year at Puppet comes to an end. I’ve been making the most of my final months by spending more time working on Forge alongside John Murray. I’ve been storyboarding, presenting powerpoints to the UX team and also taking some time off to wind down before my time as an intern at Puppet comes to a close.

Storyboarding

A storyboard in UX is a tool that visually predicts and explores a user’s experience with a product.

This month I had the opportunity to work on storyboarding which was a new experience. I learnt that using storyboards can clearly show problems within a product that users may come across as well as the delighters. The best thing about storyboards is that they are mainly visual and human-centred. This makes it easier for the viewer of a storyboard to understand the users’ emotions shown throughout the task they are trying to complete due to the characters facial expressions. They help create a shared understanding giving you greater insight into the product.

The storyboard I created was for the Forge and I enjoyed creating this as I was able to use quotes from user testing to make it as realistic as possible. Showing the audience of the storyboard real scenarios for users of the Forge.

Presenting

John and I gathered up all our findings and research from sources such as google analytics and from when we carried out user testing on the Forge last month. We then presented it all to the UX team. I’ve previously said that presenting work is something I want to try and get better at, so opportunities like these help develop my presentation skills and confidence. I’m looking forward to taking a big leap in the following months and present at Puppet Demos.

Puppet Demos is a bi-weekly event where you can share something you’ve been working on with your peers at Puppet. The number of people that attend demos varies but I’m excited to experience something new and step out of my comfort zone. In preparation for this, John and I are trying to perfect our PowerPoint so all listeners can clearly understand our findings.

My final month ahead.

With less than a month left until my time at Puppet comes to a close, I want to take hold of every opportunity I can. Whether that be by taking part in a new experience or having a conversation with someone I haven't yet had the chance to speak to. As said previously I’m now starting to wind down and take some time off over the next few weeks before finishing my placement year. In this final month, I know there is going to be a lot of reflecting on my experience as Puppet, looking at how far I’ve come, thinking of all the people that got me to where I am today and things I need to work on as a designer.

I’ll save my big shoutouts until next month but the teams and people I’ve worked alongside this year have been beyond amazing. I can’t thank everyone at Puppet enough for taking me on board and not treating me like an intern but instead as a valued member of the company.

I am looking forward to reuniting with everyone soon as I’m delighted and super thankful to say I received a job offer from Puppet as a UX Designer and will be returning after my final year of university! 🎉
